<description>Under Action Nr. 24, the Commission announced its intention to set up a European Platform of Women Scientists which would be committed to promoting gender equality in scientific research, in order to enhance the participation of women in research and their active involvement in the policy process at European level.

An open call for the establishment of the European Platform of Women Scientists EPWS was published in September 2003 under the Sixth European Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP6).

In February 2005 the contract between the European Commission and Center of Excellence Women and Science CEWS [insert link to CEWS] in Bonn took effect. The FP6 Specific Support Action (PLATWOMSCI) aiming at the creation and establishment of the Platform, ran from 1 February 2005 to 31 October 2008.

In recognition of its successful performance, increasing impact, high visibility at European level, and the acknowledged necessity of its work, the Platform was listed as named recipient in the Capacities Science in Society Work Programme 2008 under the Seventh European Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7).

Under this current funding scheme, EPWS receives funding for project activities, not for the running costs of the Platform, and has to match the Commission funding with 20% co-funding as well as pre-finance the last instalment on its own accord.

In order to achieve this goal, the following objectives are pursued:

Collection of innovative ideas in the field of fundamental and applied research.
Assessment of the ideas in terms of feasibility in close co-operation with academic and industrial partners.
Aggregation of competencies and resources necessary to carry out high quality projects.
Preparation of the project proposals for the implementation of the ideas.
Active participation in research and knowledge transfer activities

<description>In April 2001, as a law for gender parity in politics had just passed in France, CNRS rose to a new challenge. To improve the equilibrium between men and women, it launched a new approach and supports its policy with the necessary means: CNRS Director General created and chaired a Steering committee to investigate “Disciplines, Professions, Careers and Gender: The place of women at CNRS”.

The committee’s task was to design and implement an action plan for the promotion of the role of women at CNRS, to ensure the coherence of all activities undertaken in this regard, to give its opinion on the conditions of their implementation, to coordinated the procedures, evaluate the results and propose all useful measures as likely to promote the place of women at CNRS.

<description>The Leibniz Association of German Research Institutes sees itself as a bridge between traditional research and customer oriented breakthroughs.
Many of the association's institutes were founded to solve specific social demands.

The Leibniz Association is characterized by the variety of subjects and disciplines treated in the institutions. This variety allows, in particular, to bridge the gap between the humanities and social sciences as well as natural sciences, life sciences and engineering.

The research museums in the Leibniz Association preserve and explore the natural and cultural heritage. They also showcase research and are places of learning, thus eliciting fascination for science.
